The Convenience Trap. A long road on a mountain.

Doing things out of convenience can be helpful sometimes, but is it always the best route to take? The modern world has become obsessed with finding easier ways and cutting out steps to “make our lives easier”. We are losing the art of life by cutting out the long winding road. I hope this article opens your eyes and you realize doing things the easy way isn’t always what’s best.

The Convenience trap

I wholeheartedly believe that choosing convenience over actually doing the work is working against us. We are becoming lazy and we are forgetting that the hard roads are the ones worth taking. Look at our food system. We are being sold the idea that our meals come in a box, they require little to no effort and most people are eating it up. Is this making us healthier? No, the health of the modern world is drastically declining. Making things from scratch or doing things by hand is becoming a lost art. A lot of people don’t even pick out their groceries anymore. I’m not shaming anyone, my only hope is to wake people up. I’m using my voice to remind you that we are moving in the wrong direction. Will you take this in and make changes in your life? Make your sauce from scratch, go to the grocery store, bake at home and nourish your body with food you’ve prepared.

Convenience over work is everywhere. You can get so many things from a couple of clicks on your phone. Don’t get me wrong, I love being able to jump on Amazon if I run out of my matcha. But, If convenience is overused, we will become so lazy that we won’t have any push to do things ourselves. Learning to figure things out and take the long road helps us evolve and grow. Taking the easy way or the way you know will keep you exactly where you are. As humans, we need to have purpose and expand. If we don’t we become unhappy. Think about the times of your life when you were the happiest. I bet you were learning and growing. Now think about your life now, how can you push yourself towards growing and learning? It’s not taking the easy road.

Choosing hard Over Comfort Or ConvEnience

If you are working towards a goal in life will you choose the elevator or the stairs? The elevator will surely get you there quicker, but will it have the depth it needs to flourish into something you are proud of and that lasts a lifetime? You might miss some steps and not learn as much. Taking the stairs will take longer and surely be harder, but your roots will be deep, it will have heart and soul. Taking things slowly and step by step will ensure you are moving with more thought, love and care. Taking the longer harder road will be more meaningful and full. It will be healthier and have a stronger foundation. You will learn more and be able to share what you’ve learnt with others. Moving at a slower pace will also ensure you can tap into your guides and intuition.

ConvEnience Trap Swaps

From the bottom of my heart, this is not meant to shame anyone!! I’m truly sharing things that have woken me up in my life and have brought clarity and depth to my life. I write my blog from my heart and I share from a place of wanting a better world with more love, connection and purpose.

  • Instead of shopping online and having your groceries delivered. Go to a local farmers market, talk to the vendor, ask questions, connect with them, and learn how they grow their food. Be proud of the people you are supporting. Know your food is holding good karma and love. Connecting to our food is essential.
  • Instead of buying all your food from the grocery store commit to learning to grow a few items you eat weekly. There is nothing better than knowing the food you are eating was grown in your backyard, by you.
  • Instead of driving around looking for the perfect parking spot, park at the back of the lot and walk. Think extra steps and extra effort!
  • Instead of waiting for the elevator take the stairs. This is a great way to move your body and clear your mind.
  • Read instead of only using audible
  • Do the things that scare you instead of whats comfortable
  • Try new things every week
  • Call a friend instead of text

There are so many things you can do in life to grow and learn. Pushing your self out of convenience is just one of them. The examples above are just simple ways to start thinking about your life and how we naturally fall into comfort and convenience. Let me know in the comments how you take the hard road over comfort.

Take Inventory and Change Direction

Take some time this week to sit down and think about ways you can push yourself away from convenience. Start small and work your way up. Challenge yourself to learn and grow through this. Your mind, body and spirit will thank you.
